Abbey's love for language began at a young age; she has many fond memories of lugging a bag overflowing with library books to the family van on "library day", and reading them on the drive home. Growing up with six siblings, communication opportunities were ample! Several caregiving experiences helped her see communication as a gift, which led her to pursue a career where she could blend her gifts of language and caring for others.
After graduating with her Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Western Washington University (2022), Abbey worked in the private practice setting in Colorado, where she developed a passion for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and supporting the language development of autistic communicators. Her passion to promote communication accessibility through AAC has taken her many places, the most recent being Arequipa, Peru! She has presented internationally on AAC implementation and language development.
Abbey's therapy approach is rooted in establishing connection and trust, which she achieves through family-focused intervention. By considering a child's interests, their family's insight, and evidence-based intervention into goal setting, Abbey has supported the communication growth of countless clients. Abbey started Abide Speech and Language in 2025, with the aim to glorify God and serve her community by providing meaningful and skilled speech and language therapy, with a focus in AAC implementation.
"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me." John 15:4
